A Simple View of the Universe
This first article is intended to prepare you for looking at the world with different eyes.
Yes, I know it will be hard to change concepts you have had all your life but try, on the Big Bang Theory, Science, Speed of light, Space, Time, and the Universe.
We will now explore new concepts. Is the speed of light constant? Does time exist? Did the universe ever begin? Will the universe ever end? Is the universe solid or pure energy? Is the Big Bang Theory correct? Is the usually accepted concept of black holes correct?
To these questions, I have to be very careful about how I start, fearing that you will stop reading after the first few lines. It is important before you read on to open your mind to the possibility of new concepts of the universe. Some things that I will propose to you totally contradict all you have been taught at school or university. The universe is a lot simpler than those entire theorists claim.
I have heard all about fourth dimensions, time warps, wormholes, time travel and so on. Well, are you ready? Here goes.
If you have questions that appear to be impossible to answer, it could be that your understanding of the world and the universe around you is wrong. For example: - If there is a God what made him? If there is a beginning and an ending of the universe, what was there before and after? What was the beginning of time, when will time end?
To answer these impossible questions, we need to explore our understanding of the concepts we use day to day. For an impossible question to be answered we need to find a new understanding of some of our accepted concepts. We use many concepts to help make sense of our lives, it is not important if they exist or not. But when you have impossible questions to answer, then their existence or not is very important in the answering of these questions. There are no impossible questions except possibly the question why, if your understanding of the world and the universe is correct all questions will not be impossible questions to answer. We are like an ant in a colony of ants the colony has collective intelligence, so can one ant ask questions and get an answer that it comprehends.
Let us now start by exploring some generally accepted concepts:
Time, Beginnings, Ends, Space, Speed of light, The Big Bang Theory and Black Holes.
What is time?
Time is a very important concept for the human race to develop beyond the animal level. Without the ability to manage this concept of time and many others we would be cows in a field and could never move forward. But dose time have to exist for us to manage the concept of time.
We measure time by using a variety of methods. A day is when the Earth rotates once, a year is when the Earth orbits the Sun once, and a Lunar month is when the moon orbits the Earth once. For smaller periods we use what is called a clock. A clock basically is a very simple device. All these methods help us have the ability to be aware of change, called time. We use many concepts as tools to help us manage our lives, but do they have to exist, for example:- Time, Ownership, Believing, Security, Beginnings and Ends.
When I was about 5 or 6 years old, my mother sent me to Sunday school where the teacher told me all about God and religion. I had great difficulty understanding the concept of God. I kept coming up with one burning question:
If God exists, what created him? I asked this question many times, but no one could give me an answer. Some would reply only God knows, but that reply did not satisfy me.
For many years, this question nagged at me until one night I came up with the answer while I was in bed.
In our day-to-day living, we accept beginnings and ends of things. We are born and then we die, the Sun began and will end; the Earth began and will end. We can go on and on.
What we rarely are experiencing is the beginning and the end of a name or concept only. We call that bright thing up there the Sun, but when it ends; we most likely would call it a supernova, not the Sun or star, that is if we were here then.
If we can open our minds to the universe and see that it has never begun and will never end, we now have the answer to my first impossible question, what created God? The answer is that he never began and will never end. He has always been there.
What is Space?
Now hold on to your seats. Space is the void between our Earth, moon, Sun, and all matter in the universe. We have covered the universe as having no beginning or ending; now let us look at what is the universe. The genuinely accepted view is that space is empty. This does not ring true with my understanding. Let's turn this view upside down and say that the universe is a pure solid, in other words, pure energy, and the matter within that solid is an impurity. (The matter is being the less solid than space.) This opens up a lot of interesting before impossible unanswered questions.
What is gravity, what is the speed of light, what is the Big Bang Theory, and so on?
What is Gravity?
If it is correct about the universe is solid or pure energy, gravity is the differential between matter and solid. The greater the matter or impurity, the stronger the gravity is. The moon is smaller than the Earth, so therefore the gravity on the moon is less than Earth. A dust particle has gravity, but it is extremely small. When light passes matter or impurity, the light closer to it is slower than the light further away. This bends the light, giving refraction.
What is the speed of light?
The speed of light, usually denoted by c, is a physical constant important in many areas of physics. Light and all other electromagnetic radiation always travel at this speed in empty space (vacuum), regardless of the motion of the source or the inertial frame of the observer. Its value is exactly 299,792,458 meters per second (approximately 186,282 miles per second).
This is the accepted view; the light has a constant speed throughout the universe: 299,792,458 meter per second.
I question this view. If we were on a planet say 100 times larger than Earth, I suggest the speed of light would be slower than on Earth. There will become a time as the gravity gets stronger, the speed of light would get slower until it stops, giving you as we know it, a BLACK HOLE.
By how much, I don't know because you will need at least two parameters to calculate the maximum speed of light in deep space. We have only one parameter, and that is the speed of light on Earth. If one day we measure the speed of light on say the moon, then we can calculate the maximum speed of light in deep space. I have avoided using formulas in this article, but you can try.
What is the Big Bang Theory?
The Big Bang was an event which led to the formation of the universe, according to the prevailing cosmological theory of the universe, a development known as the Big Bang Theory.
I get so irritated when people use accepted theories and then use those theory's to come up with new theories.
If the first theory is incorrect, then the second one most likely will be as well. Most astronomers today hold the view that the universe is expanding. They hold this idea because of the accepted view that the speed of light is constant throughout the universe. They use what is called the red-shift test. The redshift is when, in this case, light from a distant star, is passed through a prism and then projecting the spectrum coming from the prism onto photo paper, and you end up with a spectrum of all colours of a rainbow with absorption lines of gases from that star. When I tried to repeat a spectrum I was unable to see the absorption lines in the spectrum I produced. What am I doing wrong? If you have any suggestions, please let me know. My E-Mail is at the bottom of this article.
Prism
It is highly likely that the star you are looking at is far greater in size than our planet or sun. If it were not, there is a good chance we would never see it.
For this explanation when I use the word star it will mean "Star or Galaxy"
Spectrum "A1" is our reference spectrum. "A2" is when the star is moving away from us. As you can see the absorption lines have moved towards the red part of the spectrum, assuming the theory that the speed of light is constant throughout the universe, then I would agree that the star is moving away from us.
As I have mentioned earlier, it is highly likely this star is a lot larger than our star, the Sun. And if I am correct in thinking the speed of light is not constant throughout the universe and we observe a larger star, the light leaving that star is going to be slower giving the same results as if the star was moving away from us.
In this case of light, let us look at the frequency of the light spectrum when leaving a distant star. At this moment, the speed of light will be slower than on earth. As the light from the star approaches earth, the speed will finally get to the speed of light on the earth. The spectrum now will be at a higher frequency than when it left the star. See A2 spectrum.
The visible spectrum A2 will now be lower, giving you an absorption line shift. What happens to the speed of light on its way to Earth is not important at this point.
Now let us compare these two spectrums, assuming that the speed of light is constant throughout the universe and the star is moving away from us. The A1 spectrum is our reference spectrum. The A2 spectrum will be when the star is moving away from us. As you can see, the comparison of the two spectrums is identical for both theories.
It would be interesting to see if there is an absorption line shift from our Sun. The first thing we would need to do to check this is to create a white light spectrum with absorption lines of gases from an artificial source.
Not our Sun because I suspect our Sun is used as a spectrum reference point when looking at distant stars for an absorption line shift. It is necessary to start with an independent spectrum reference point.
Then compare the sun’s spectrum with our reference spectrum. The comparison could be very interesting if there were a shift in the absorption lines in the two spectrums.
Are you trying to tell me that our sun is moving away from us, I think not? This would encourage more research.
But there are two sides to a coin if we were unable to see a difference. Then my idea could be wrong or too small to detect. That is OK. This is the whole object of experimentation; you must be prepared for what the finding gives you.
In this experiment, there are a few questions we have to ask ourselves: When in space will the crystal oscillator change frequency?
Will the distance between the two mirrors change when in space? Adjusting the delay and the amplitude of the signal bringing the two inputs of the phase multiplier in phase. This might solve the problem. Before the satellite gets too far from earth.
Do you have any suggestions?
Diagram A & 1A is an experiment to see if the speed of light changes when it goes away from our planet into deep space. Solid/pure energy: please note there are many ways to do this, and this is only one way.
I know that the satellite is an impurity in itself, so we will not obtain the ultimate speed of light. But for this test, when we get away from earth, there could be a speed increase of light.
The way this one works, you transmit a modulated light beam to a mirror about one meter away, through a tube with no air in it. The reflected beam is then received by a light receiver that demodulates the signal. I would like to point out if we could reflect the beam many times before demodulating the signal, this would increase the sensitivity of the experiment. Please see diagram 1A. Seeing that this experiment will be in a satellite, size is critical. It is now being passed through an adjustable amplifier to the first phase multiplier input. The other signal from the oscillator is then fed through an adjustable delay and amplifier to the second input of the phase multiplier. The output of the phase multiplier then controls an audio oscillator’s frequency so it can be transmitted back to earth. Please note the amplitude of the two inputs of the phase multiplier should be the same, and in phase when leaving earth.
I have already covered this way to check the redshift of our sun. To recap. I strongly suspect they use the spectrum of our sun as a reference point when comparing the redshift of a distant star. It would be no good to look at the spectrum of our sun in this way. What we need to do is create an independent reference spectrum of an artificial white light source. There are many ways to produce artificial white light. I could name a few white light sources, but I am not going to because science today most likely has a better way to do it. Now we have our independent artificial white light, we now are ready to compare the spectrum of our sun. I would not expect a large comparison change, because the sun is relatively small compared to distant stars that we look at. If there is a red shift of the absorption line, we know the sun is not moving away from us. So what is causing the change? Interesting question, is it not? I would suggest that this test is carried out before diagram A or 1A.
Now to recap, I have put forward three experiments, the most interesting and the cheapest is to look at the spectrum of our sun using artificial white light. This just about concludes my paper, but before I leave you with all these thoughts,
I would like to tell you a little about myself.
When writing the first paper I was seventy-two and lived on an island called Curacao, Dutch West Indies. 12.1N 68.5W. It is about thirty-eight miles long with a population of about 135,000. I am British and was a civil servant in England for about twenty years in the field of electronics and telecommunications. I retired from that job when I was fifty.
Then I sailed to Curacao in 1988. And stayed there until I returned back to England, in September 2012. The concepts I have put down on this paper have been with me for about forty-five years or longer. I felt it time to put them to paper. My life started when I was left in a church called St Martin’s in the Field in London, about October 1938. It was estimated that I was about a month old, so they gave me a birth date on the 20th of September.
2.
A SIMPLE VIEW OF WHAT WE ARE
Now you have read the first article this second article will, I hope to be easier to understand. The first thing I will say again is that all these concepts are based on my logic and a lifetime of observation. This article is aimed at the average person on the street. Most people live their day to day lives without any thought of the consequences of their actions, I hope you by making it to the end of this article will enhance your awareness. You could call this article philosophy, but what is philosophy? It is the ability to put into different words concepts that people already understand. I will cover, Perfection, Inner Perception, Decision Making, Influence, Diplomacy, Responsibility, Good & Bad Acts, Living forever, Intelligence, Religion, Love, Wisdom, Logic, and leaving this planet when the time comes.
Please remember all these concepts and a lot that I have not covered, come together to make us what we are.
PERFECTION:
This is a good subject to start with. To achieve perfection, you have to always aim for it. Anything you do, you always aim for the best. If you have a choice of two jobs always go for the one that you think will be the hardest to achieve. If you do this, in time it won't matter which one you pick, because both jobs will appear equal. Whatever you are trying to do, aim for perfection; I am not saying you will always achieve perfection, but if you find you cannot achieve that you can lower your aim; then you have achieved the best you can do. Aiming for perfection can be habit forming; If you aim for the highest standards in whatever you do, in time you will get into the habit without thinking about it. Slowly this will become a way of life in everything you do, not just in your job. I hope the remainder of this article will help you to understand and achieve perfection in your life, or close to it. Another point is if you want to achieve a goal in life, but a weakness you have is in the way, like spelling, reading and many other weaknesses you might have. Don’t try to go through them go round them to achieve your goal.
INNER PERCEPTION:
The brain is what we are and the body is the host for the brain. The brain is supported by the body; without the body, the brain would not survive. It is true that the brain influences the body a great deal in health and well-being. It is a temptation for some people to judge themselves on how their body is functioning, this is a great mistake. Your body is just as dependent on your brain as you are on your body. No matter whether you only have one arm or one leg a weak heart and so on. Your brain's attitude is a great healer for your body. Finally, if your body gives up, you have then lived your life span. We will cover your life span later in this article.
Inner Perception of what we are comes within ourselves. Other people’s inner view of us is not necessarily the same as we have of ourselves. We are looking outwards to the world from our inner perception; other people look at us from their inner perception not yours. Let us look at our inner view that is unique when we are looking at the outside world. Most people make judgements of other people based on the inner perception of themselves. This in itself can be a mistake. When we make judgements on others, we must not make those judgements on what we are, for example, if someone has tattoos all over their face, it is a temptation from your viewpoint to think how stupid and unintelligent that person is. And you could be right, but there could be other reasons, though unlikely in this case. One: the person was so drunk at that time of being tattooed. Two: the person has been in an accident and to hide the scars had tattoos on the face. Three: we all wear a uniform, the way we dress, the way we have our hair, the way we want to present ourselves to the outside world. It is important to be very careful not to influence your judgement from your own perception. Yes, I know this example is extreme, but I think you get the idea.
DECISION MAKING:
Nobody makes decisions. Decisions are made with your inner view of the circumstances that you perceive. If two people were presented with the same circumstances - they would not necessarily make the same decision. For example, two people see the same circumstances - one the car will not start, Two it is Sunday, three there are no buses, for it is two miles to work. Number one will decide to phone work to explain the situation and not go to work. Number two will phone work and tell them, ‘I will be late because I have to walk’. What makes them have different decisions? It is the inner feelings that are different. Number one cares less about work than number two; number one puts more value on watching a film on TV than number two. There are a lot of reasons why they make different decisions. The reasons can be very complicated indeed.
INFLUENCE:
All things exert influence, a grain of sand, a boulder, animals and us. When you are walking and there is a boulder in the way, you walk around it or climb over, that is the influence that the boulder has created because it was there. If it was not there you would walk in an uninterrupted line. Yes, I know, let’s look at humans now.
All humans influence society and things around them to a greater or lesser degree. A lot of people are unaware of that influence they have on others, if they become aware of that influence, they have now inherited a responsibility to others. This is not an easy responsibility to bear.
I can remember when I was in my 30's I taught Judo at a local gym, there was a lad who lived close by who called around and we both walked to the gym, him carrying my judo suit and black belt. I now know how proud he was to carry it for me. One day due to domestic reasons I decided to stop teaching judo. In the evening he called round as usual; I then told him I would not be teaching judo any more. There was a pause and then he burst into tears. On reflection, I realized the effect that I had on that lad, and from that time on I became aware of the influence I had on other people. I do hope that the lad forgives me for my insensitive attitude then. What you do with this influence will be up to you. If you have kids it is more likely if their parents don't smoke, they won't smoke either. Remember, how you live your life will influence people around you in a good or a bad way, if you are aware of this it can help you to live your life in a way that the people around you are influenced in a positive way. This will help direct the way you live your life.
DIPLOMACY:
The general concept of diplomacy is in the international field, but diplomacy is used as well in day to day living. My definition of diplomacy for day to day is the use of friendship, honesty, integrity, humility, and respect for others and empathy. It is important to understand these concepts must not be falsely used; people are not easily fooled by false pretence. If you are able to live this attitude with honesty, people will grow to respect you, and it will increase your influence, this does not mean they will always agree with you.
RESPONSIBILITY:
I have covered this briefly, but now let us cover it in greater detail. We don't only have a responsibility because of our influence on other people; we have a responsibility to our close-ones as well, like our kids, our spouses, family and close friends. Yes, responsibility is one aspect, but there are other points I would like to cover. For ease of writing this article, we will call them loved-ones. It is more likely that we affect our loved-ones more than general society. Excessive drinking and smoking to a point of making you ill, taking drugs, apathy, depression, attempted suicide and many other things I have not even thought of. In all these things there is one common denominator-
You have not yet become aware of your responsibility to your family and other people. Let us look at the examples I have mentioned.
Excessive drinking and smoking to a point of making you ill: If you care for your loved-ones and become aware of the stress you are causing there is a greater chance of you stopping or cutting down to a moderate level. Taking drugs - again awareness that you are hurting your family and friends will give you the incentive to do something about it.
APATHY:
It can be habit forming and can grow slowly over the years; usually, it is an illness that you might not be aware of. Your loved ones and good friends are usually the first to point it out to you. If you want to, you can turn it around and recover from it. It won't be easy, but you can do it.
DEPRESSION:
Long-term depression and you don't know why, is a mental illness which is extremely difficult to shrug off. This is one illness that being aware might not help you to recover. There are a lot of drugs that can help suppress manic depression.
Most of us get depressed in the short term. When things are not going well, when you lose a close one, just after a divorce, when you have money problems, caring for a family member when they are sick and so on.
When you feel depressed long term or short term, there is one thing that you must not do,
Drink alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant; this will only amplify the feelings of depression. The short term depression is a normal reaction to setbacks in life. The long term depression is far more serious and in extreme cases can lead to suicide.
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE:
Is in most cases a desperate cry for help. In this case, you must be lucky for your family or good friends to recognize your need.
With these examples, possibly not manic depression, there is one common denominator - awareness of your responsibility to your family and friends and yourself. By having awareness, it will reduce the likelihood of you ever getting these problems and your loved-ones most likely will love you more for it. Terminally ill patients may in some cases consider suicide.
At this point, I would like to cover the caring for terminally ill close-ones. It is a temptation for the person that is terminally ill to reject the family with the subconscious idea of making it easier for them to cope with the inevitable. They are so wrong. Looking after terminally ill loved ones helps to make it easier to cope with the final loss and the inevitable bereavement that follows. And it will help the terminally ill to cope with their death, knowing that their family cares for them. Some people find it hard to cope with other people’s illnesses. To help them cope with this helplessness, as I pointed out earlier in this article, overall awareness of the responsibility you have towards others will help you cope with other people's illness.
GOOD & BAD ACTS:
An act on its own is neither good nor bad, what makes an act good or bad is the motivation behind that act. If a person helps an old lady across the street, this in itself is neither good nor bad. But if that person is helping the old lady across the street so that she gets across safely, that is a good act.
If that person is helping her because the other side of the street has no street lamps so she can be mugged more easily, that is a bad act. It is the person’s motivation that makes the act good or bad. Lightning does not care where it hits the ground; if you are there, then that is your bad luck. It is totally random and impartial where it strikes; this act is neither good nor bad. Earthquakes, storms, and many other natural events are totally random.
Now let us look at some interesting concepts that I covered with a simple view of the Universe.
To recap - in that article I covered the concept that the Universe never began and will never end, yes, you are now going to say there must be a beginning of all things. I would agree with you if time existed, but let us examine what time is. Time is an awareness of change only, nothing more. We use the concept of time as an important tool to help us develop, but the concept of time does not have to exist for us to use the concept. We use many concepts as tools that most likely don’t exist. Ownership, Time, Security, believing.
OWNERSHIP:
No one owns anything; you come into this world the same way that you leave it. The concept of ownership is created by the society you live in. If you have a car, it is the society that accepts you own it; a house you live in, society acknowledges that you own it. There have been many cases in history where society changes. Then what you believed is yours is now no longer the case.
BELIEVING:
Is another tool most of us use to make sense of the world around us. For most people putting the unexplainable into a believing box help them make meaning of their life.
Now we come to another interesting concept. If I told you that I am going to live forever, you will most likely call me a crackpot. I am not saying I will defeat nature, what I am saying you need to have this attitude to get the best out of your life. Hold on there; let us look more closely at that statement. We live a lifetime regardless of how long that is, and then we die.
We will use the word time for convenience. Once we have died, we are unaware of time for billions of years to infinity. A small example is when you are unconscious or asleep, during that period there is no time at all to you, but when you are alive and awake you are aware of change so you can say you are alive for an eternity.
This opens up another interesting thought while we are dead the Universe is still changing so somewhere there are Suns developing at the right size and planets forming at the right size and distance from their Suns, allowing life to evolve to our level. Remember size and distance is very important. For example, the planet Mars is too far from the Sun and too small for it to age slowly enough to allow life to evolve to our level. Our planet, on the other hand, is ageing at a slower rate, allowing evolution to adapt to the ageing process of our Earth.
Out there in the Universe, there is most likely an infinite number of suns and planets that are the same as our solar system, I would think it is possible there is me and you reading this article called “A Simple View of What We Are to become” somewhere else in the Universe. This is an assumption.
You might now ask, why did I bring this up, I am going to live forever?
The reason: earlier I wrote about our perception of ourselves, other people will witness me dying, but I will never witness myself dying, and I may witness you dying. Yes, I know this is a contradiction in terms, but if you realize this concept, it will help you get the best out of your life, and give you the feeling of well-being and not have a fear of dying when the time comes for you.
INTELLIGENCE:
There are many different explanations of what intelligence is. First, let me say, in my opinion, intelligence is most likely self-destructive in the long term because intelligence learns faster than wisdom. Now let us start by explaining two types of intelligence that I know of, artificial intelligence and human intelligence. Artificial intelligence is what we call computer intelligence; human intelligence is self-explanatory to a point. The main difference between the two is at present computers work in a serial form only. May I add that computer designers are working hard to upgrade computers to work in instantaneous or parallel thinking mode as well. When or if this is achieved on computers, we will have to rewrite the law to incorporate another form of active intelligence on this planet. Let me now try to explain the difference between serial and parallel mode. A serial mode is when the process of thinking of a better word, is in a sequential mode.
SERIAL OR SEQUENTIAL.
"THE TIME IS TEN PAST FIVE"
Word 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > 5 > 6 >
First word, then the second word third, fourth, fifth, sixth received in a serial or sequential mode.
PARALLEL OR INSTANTANEOUS.
"THE TIME IS TEN PAST FIVE"
Word 1,2,3,4,5 & 6 are sent instantaneously or in parallel.
At this point, I would like to stop using the word parallel, because I think it is not an easy word to understand, so instead, we will use the word instantaneous.
When we talk it is in serial mode, one word after the other, as when we read a book, or when we listen to the radio and so on. The way we communicate with computers is the same as we communicate with ourselves.
Now we come to instantaneous thinking. I am trying to find the best way to explain this concept, so please bear with me. The problem I have is the concept in my mind of instantaneous thinking is in the whole, now I need to convert this to a serial mode for this article. Let us start with some examples. If a friend of yours tells you in a pub he is going to the toilet, as he gets up you say, “Piss off then”, as a joke. He hears this in serial form, but his comprehension is instantaneous. One, he knows you are a friend, Two, he recognizes it is a play on words. Have you ever experienced, when with someone, that you both think of the same thing at the same time? This could be called telepathy; receiving telepathic thoughts is instantaneous.
Another way to look at instantaneous understanding is if I have written down a concept and instead of you reading it in serial form you receive it instantaneously by some means.
Now we have defined intelligence now let us define the level of intelligence in people. It is virtually impossible to define intelligence because the variables are so complex. Firstly, I would like to give you my definition of what intelligence is. We all know during our life we get setbacks called bad luck and good luck. If, when your life is coming to an end, you can honestly say to yourself, “I have had a good life and would not want to change anything, even the bad things that have happened during my life that is intelligence. Now you most likely will say what a lot of rubbish, but hold on, please read on, it might make more sense.
I will start by asking questions. Why do people smoke excessively, drink alcohol excessively, take drugs excessively and so on? Young people might do these things, but as they mature in age their intelligence and wisdom should kick in and tell them what a stupid thing they are doing. I know stopping can be hard, there are organizations out there to help them to stop. If they decide not to stop, that is a lack of intelligence and wisdom which they most likely will pay the price later.
EDUCATION:
Being educated or gifted does not automatically make you intelligent. But if you are intelligent it should help you to make the most out of education or being gifted.
In my job I rubbed shoulders with many highly educated people, eight out of ten could not think themselves out of a plastic bag. The other two with their education and their intelligence were very good indeed.
Being gifted in the arts, crosswords, chess, speed reading, sport, maths, puzzles, and many other activities are no guarantee that you are intelligent as well. I am not saying all are unintelligent; a lot will be intelligent as well. Education can stifle creative thought; in other words, it can restrict you from thinking outside the box. Outside the box means lateral thinking for want of a better definition.
I have a question - I understand that in certain sportswomen and men cannot compete against each other because most women do not have the physical strength that most men have. But there are certain sports that do not require physical strength: chess, poker, snooker, pool and so on. Is this because women are less intelligent than men? I don't think so; generally, women and men have the same intelligence.
Then why, I ask myself, why do we not see more women competing against men in those sports that do not require strength? I think the answer is: women generally are not so competitive and their values differ from those of men.
RELIGION:
I should point out it is not my intention to single out any one religion on its own. It is not important what religion you believe in, as long as it helps you make sense of your life. The way I see it religion can be split into two categories: Individual faith and organized religion. Individual faith is what most people have to make sense of their lives. Organized religion is when you have a group of people with the same faith all in the same place or country. It is true that over history, many atrocities have taken place under the guise of organized religion. A lot of people use the authority of other people to gain weight for their own arguments. Even the Bible was used to control the people in the past; one example is St Luke 19 chapter 27. “But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me”. Ask yourself did Jesus really say that? I am going to stop there because I don’t want to get into a witch hunt.
LOVE:
In younger people, sex is an instinct that is born with them that manifests itself at the time of puberty. This is nature's way of ensuring the propagation of the human race. But love can take a different form as we get older. When two people want to get married with the view of starting a family, it is a temptation for the boy to try to be what he thinks the girl wants to see, and the girl tries to be what she thinks the boy wants to see. When they both get married there are two shadows that cannot be seen. After the honeymoon is over and they most likely now have kids, those two shadows slowly take over, and can cause the couple to drift apart slowly. Have you ever heard you or other people say, 'you were not like this when we got married, you have changed’? I am of the opinion you should love each other selfishly. Then when you get married there are no shadows to take over later. That will give you a greater chance to live together for the rest of your life. I should add I think marriage is a good system. When you declare to the world that you wish to spend the rest of your life with each other, this will give you the strength when things get a little sticky. All marriages go through sticky times. When a couple lives together without getting married, and after a few years decide to get married, then I get an ominous feeling that one or both are not feeling secure in their relationship, this is not always the case, I will add.
Now we come to love later in life, yes the sex side most likely will be still there, but the love changes to a form of friendship and acceptance of each other's weaknesses and strengths. When you have got to that point there is a strong possibility that only death will part you. Remember, if that happens, no one can ever take away the happiness you had together. At this point I would like to add, if your partner has been ill for a long time and finally dies, there can be a feeling of relief. Don't feel guilty; this is a normal reaction that will pass.
WISDOM:
Such a simple word “wesdom” that means so much and I can spell it as well. Ha!
I have met many people who are not too intelligent or educated, but they have a lot of wisdom. This concept is used as a tool to help you manage your weaknesses and qualities you might have.
Honesty, modesty: without wisdom to help you manage these subjects can be very upsetting to others. Earlier in this article under decision making, I put forward four situations. “One, the car will not start, two, it is Sunday, three, there are no buses, four, it is two miles to work.” Number one decided not to go to work and Number two, to go to work. Let us now bring in wisdom in this decision example. Wisdom enables you to assess the overall consequences of your decisions, in this simple case whether to go or not go to work. I am not going to say if they would make different decisions or not, but what I will say is that the big picture of the problem was far greater than if they did not use wisdom as a tool. Honesty without wisdom can be very hurtful to others. False modesty is a form of dishonesty, but using wisdom will help you identify false modesty when you recognize it, and prevent it.
LOGIC:
At the beginning of this article, I used the word logic, so perhaps I should try to explain what logic is. I will start by saying all things that happen in the Universe have a logical reason behind them. It is true to say that we humble humans only understand a very small part of the reason things happen. Say you were driving your car and the front tire burst, causing the car to come off the road hitting a tree. Whether anyone was injured is not important. Your natural assumption would be, the reason for hitting that tree was because the tire burst, and you would be right to a point. Now let’s break this down to a logical build up to the point that the car hit the tree. I could try to follow the events in the ascendant way back to when our solar system was formed. Relax, I can't do that even if I wanted to. Instead, let’s start with the tire: when it was being manufactured there was a defect in the process that caused the tire to be weakened. A week earlier you had a puncture, on taking it for repair it was found to be beyond repair, so a new tire was fitted but was mistakenly overinflated by the mechanic. On the day of the accident, it was very hot and sunny, and instead of going along the motorway, you decided to take a shortcut along a country road. About an hour before you came along, a truck with stones lost part of its load on the road. You then came along running over some stones from the truck, causing your tire to burst. This is a logical build-up to why you hit that tree. To find a logical reason for why things happen is sometimes impossible for us to understand. It is a chain of events leading up to when the car hits the tree. This example is grossly oversimplified; we could look at why the tire was defective. There is a chain of events leading up to the defective tire, and so on. If these events could be rewound and played again, there is no guarantee that the car will hit that tree, because one tiny event might change. Logic is when you think you know why an event happened.
Well done, you made it to this point, you might ask who am I aiming for when I wrote this article, the answer is - YOU. Many will start reading this article, but after a few pages will stop reading on. Those people I am not aiming for. You are the person I am looking for.
To read this far there is a strong possibility you are the type of person with an open mind, willing to accept new ideas that you might not have thought of.
Earlier in this article, I did mention that intelligence is self-destructive because it learns faster than wisdom. Now let us move on to another form of extinction on this planet. As we all know the earth is getting older and as it is ageing the environmental conditions will change to a point where life will not be able to survive. Mars is an example. OK, we know that, but, “what can we do about it?” you will ask.
By then I hope we will have the knowledge to leave this planet, to travel to another planet in the Universe that will support life like ours. Unfortunately, there are a few problems with this idea. Firstly, at this moment the only way we know how to get off this planet is by using rocket power. Rocket power is outdated before we even get off the ground, it is so limited. At best we will only be able to visit the planets within our solar system. And if in the future we find an alternative way to propel ourselves into space we will still have limitations, that is our life span and the probability of finding a planet suitable for us is very unlikely. For a planet to be suitable for us, it will have to be the right size, the right distance from its sun and uninhabited by intelligent life. In my opinion, even if by then we have found an alternative means of propulsion to say travel ten times the speed of light, the likelihood of finding a suitable planet is still very remote, and all the people on Earth would have to be moved. Selecting only a small number would not work because every new generation, we would lose some of our knowledge until we got back to the Stone Age level.
But there is a more likely way to move from this planet. As I have mentioned earlier, there is artificial intelligence, or for a better word, computer intelligence we should consider. Computer intelligence is evolving at a very fast rate, and as soon as they develop instantaneous thought in computers there will be no stopping the evolution of computers over, say the next thousand years. If we are lucky we won’t need to leave this planet for at least a thousand or more years, allowing the development of computer intelligence the opportunity to get to the level that human intelligence can be accommodated by computers, providing we have not destroyed ourselves by then. This opens up a lot of interesting scenarios. Computers by then will be most likely capable of self-repairing so 100,000 years is no time at all to them, they could travel the Universe for billions of years looking for a suitable planet. I could put down a lot more ideas, but I think you get the idea where I am going, a long-lasting awareness.
END
Hi are you still there? Good, I am glad you have not closed me down. Before I go I would like to try and explain why I wrought this second article. In the 78 years, I have lived on this planet, I have made many mistakes, but when I make a mistake that I know of, I try to learn from them, that it might make me a better person. If one person reads this article and helps them to become more aware of themselves, then I have succeeded in what I am trying to do by writing this article.
3.
A SIMPLE VIEW OF WHAT WE ARE TO BECOME
I have added some concepts that I missed from the previous article; I felt that they needed to be added.
I will say again that all these concepts are based on logic and a lifetime of observation. This article is aimed primarily at the average person on the street. Most people live their day to day lives without any thought of the consequences of their actions on others; I hope by making it to the end of this article, your awareness will be enhanced. You could call this article philosophy, but what is philosophy? It is the ability to put into different words concepts that people already understand. I will cover in this article,
Beginnings & Ends,
Hate,
Homosexuality,
Charity,
And leaving this planet when the time comes.
Please remember all these concepts and a lot that I have not covered, come together to make us what we are to become. All these concepts I hope will help you understand yourself more. You need to understand yourself before you can start to understand the world around you.
BEGINNINGS & ENDS:
When I was about 5 or 6 years old my mother sent me to Sunday school, where the Sunday school teacher told me all about God and religion. I had great difficulty understanding the concept of God; I kept coming up with one burning question. If God exists, who created him? I asked this question many times, but no one could give me an answer. Some would say only God knows, that reply did not satisfy me. For many years, this question nagged at me. Until one night I came up with the answer while I was in bed.
In our day to day living, we accept beginnings and ends of things. We are born and then we die, the sun began and will end; the earth began and will end. We can go on and on. What we rarely are experiencing is the beginning and the end of a name or concept only.
We call that bright thing up there the Sun, but when it ends, we most likely would call it a supernova, not the Sun or star, that is if we were still here then. If we can open our minds to the Universe and see that it has never begun and will never end, we now have the answer to my first question.
Who created God? The answer is, he has never begun and will never end. He has always been there.
HATE:
Is an emotion opposite to love. Very strong dislike for someone or detest. Now we have covered the dictionary definition. So many people misuse this word hate. I hate Coffey without milk; I hate that red dress of mine. What they should say instead of hate is “dislike”.
The feeling of true hate towards someone can be very negative to yourself and your well-being as well.
There is only one thing hate can be used towards is other people. You cannot hate animals, thunder, the sea, trees, and grass. These examples, yes, you can fear them or dislike them, but not hate them.
HOMOSEXUALITY:
This is a subject that is very hard to define. It can be broken down into two categories. You are born with this defect, You develop this defect later in life. No one really knows what the percentage of gays are in the world, some surveys say 2% others say up to 40%. I don't think we will ever know the real figure. The only thing we know for sure, there are gays in the world. Remember this defect needs to be treated with a sympathetic approach.
YOU ARE BORN WITH THIS DEFECT:
To propagate life, nature at birth has given most life the attraction towards the opposite sex. But occasionally due to a defect nature gets it wrong. This defect is usually not detected until the child approaches puberty.
YOU DEVELOP THIS DEFECT LATER IN LIFE:
There are many reasons for this; I can only mention a few. It is easier for most people being sympathetic towards physical defects than mental defects. Mental defects usually manifest themselves later in life where physical defects you can usually see at birth. In history, homosexuals were persecuted and it was against the law. Why was this? As mentioned in my last article a lot of people judge others by their own perception of themselves, this is a mistake. When making judgements on others you need to try to understand their perception, not yours. This sometimes can be very hard to do. For one example, if the thought of you being sexually attracted towards your own sex appals you from your own perception, it is a temptation to judge someone else with the same feelings. Again, you must not judge others by your own standards for yourself. And another way to develop this defect is to be in prison for a long time or your spouse fails to give you the love and understanding you need, this can lead you to seek love and understanding of the same sex. The need is very strong in most of us to be loved and understood. Is not a general rule, but it can happen.
CHARITY:
I have put forward many concepts, it should be remembered that collective concepts are what we are. Not only one concept. Now we come to what we are to become.
Earlier in this article, I did mention that intelligence is self-destructive because it learns faster than wisdom. Now let us move on to another form of extinction on this planet. As we all know the earth is getting older and as it is ageing the environmental conditions will change to a point where life will not be able to survive. The planet Mars is an example.
OK; we know that, but, “what can we do about it?” you might ask. Terra-forming our planet at present we do not have the technology to achieve this. In a thousand years or two we might have the technical ability to carry this out. If in the future we can that will be the most likely the best solution.
By then I hope we will have the knowledge to leave this planet, to travel to another planet in the Universe that will support life like ours. Unfortunately, there are a few problems with this idea.
Firstly, at this moment, the only way we know how to get off this planet is by using rocket power. Rocket power is outdated before we even get off the ground, it is so limited. At best in our organic form, we will only be able to visit the planets within our solar system. And if in the future we find an alternative way to propel ourselves in space we will still have limitations to overcome, that is our life span and the probability of finding a planet suitable for us is very unlikely. For a planet to be suitable for us, it will have to be the right size, the right distance from its sun and is uninhabited by intelligent life. In my opinion, even if by then we have found an alternative means of propulsion to say travel ten times the speed of light, remember to achieve the speed of light it would take one year at one G acceleration. “G is being our gravity on Earth” To accelerate up to ten times the speed of light in one year, our bodies would have to be subjected to a 10G force for a period of one year. Can you see how impractical this is unless we find a way to accelerate all our molecules in our body and the spacecraft at the same time? Then we could accelerate from 0 to 10 times the speed of light in no time at all. There is one thing that does this already, and that is gravity. Disregarding our atmosphere when we are free falling towards the Earth, we feel weightlessness because all our molecules in our body are being accelerated at the same time.
The likelihood of finding a suitable planet is still very remote, and all the people on Earth would have to be moved as well. Selecting only a small number would not work because every new generation in our search for this planet, we would lose some of our knowledge until we got back to the Stone Age level. For example, if you record an analogue tape you lose some of its quality, then if you rerecord the recorded tape again you will lose more of the quality. By repeating this process, there will come a time when the quality is so bad you cannot understand what was on that recorded tape.
But there is a more likely way to move from this planet.
I hold the view computers will end up being the salvation of life on our Earth. As I have mentioned earlier, there is artificial intelligence, or for a better word, computer intelligence that should be considered.
Computer intelligence is evolving at a very fast rate, and as soon as computers develop instantaneous thought there will be no stopping the evolution of computers over, say the next two thousand years. If we are lucky we won’t need to leave this planet for at least two thousand or more years, allowing the development of computer intelligence the opportunity to get to the level where human intelligence and all life on this planet can be assimilated by computers, providing we have not destroyed ourselves by then with our own self-interest.
This opens up a lot of interesting scenarios. Computers by then will be most likely capable of self-repairing so 100,000 years to infinity is no time at all to them, they could travel the Universe for billions of years looking for a suitable planet. Then we need to ask, do we need a new planet? Now we have recorded the total life from this planet Earth on this computer, I think yes for the further development of this computer. This computer has already simulated total life from Earth. All this information it has stored will give this computer awareness as I have pointed out earlier in this article with the hope of preparing you for this futuristic concept I am putting forward. Awareness breeds a need to develop further.
You can ask why I am suggesting we only have about three thousand years left on this planet when it has taken millions of years to get this far?
I will try to explain my way of thinking, I look at the environment of our planet like a bowl with a marble in it, the marble being life, the best point where life can exist is at the bottom of the bowl.
Events that happen over the life of this planet can cause the marble to move to the left or right of ideal living conditions. The planet then automatically adjusts to bring the marble back to the centre.
Unfortunately, as the planet ages, the automatic adjustment becomes slower and the events that affect the marble are greater.
As you can see from the two diagrams. When this planet gets older the curved shape of the bowl becomes shallower increasing the planet's sensitivity to the events leading the planet to a point where life will not exist. In my opinion, our planet is in the final stages of this process. I do not hold the view civilisation has played a big part in this ageing process, There are active volcanoes in every part of the world. There are about 50 to 60 active volcanoes in a year and on average 20 at any one time, many in the region of the Pacific Ocean pouring out pollution into our atmosphere, the amount we generate is minute compared to volcanoes. Global warming is taking place as I weight, and in my opinion, whatever we do will not slow down the outcome.
For a planet to evolve life, like us and all life on this planet. It must be the right size and the right distance from its sun, allowing the process of nature to keep up with the changing environment. Mars is a dead planet because it was too small and too far away from the Sun for nature to keep up with the ageing process. If and when we get to Mars, I would guess they will find primitive fossils there.
Now we get to the big question, what can we do about it? We can accept the inevitable when the time comes life becomes extinct.
Generally, humans have the will to survive so we will most likely try to find a solution to the Earth's ageing problem providing we can put aside our individual self-interest. There are a number ways of trying to solve this. You could find a way of Terra-forming our planet to slow down the ageing process. Or find another planet in the universe to colonize.
Terra-forming our planet, I covered earlier in this article. This solution obviously would be the best short term.
Say we have now found a suitable planet that has no higher intelligence on it, after many millions of years travelling the universe carrying the total storage of life from Earth. Now Let's not call it a computer but.
NOAH'S ARK
END
4.
WHY?
Why: Is not so simple as you would think or is it? This is the fourth article I am writing leading to why this computer would want to search for another suitable planet to colonise? On first thinking, you could feel it was an impossible question to answer. Impossible questions I have covered in article one.
To recap If you have questions that appear to have an impossible answer, it could be that your understanding of the world and the universe around you is wrong. For example: - If there is a God who made him? If there are a beginning and an ending of the universe, what was there before and after? What was the beginning of time, when will time end?
To answer these impossible questions, we need to explore our understanding of the concepts we use day to day. For an impossible question to be answered we need to find a new understanding of some of our accepted concepts. We use many concepts to help make sense of our lives, it is not important if they exist or not. But when you have impossible questions to answer, then their existence or not is very important in the answering of these questions. There are no impossible questions except possibly the question of why if your understanding of the world and the universe is correct.
We are like an ant in a colony of ants the colony has collective intelligence so how can one ant, ask questions and get an answer that it comprehends.
Let us look at what we know about this computer.
1. This computer with all this accumulated information has
Awareness. Collective intelligence. Knowledge. Wisdom.
2. This computer is self-repairing so it has an infinite life.
3. This computer has the ability to travel the universe indefinitely.
Now you have a computer that has awareness, collective intelligence, knowledge, wisdom and infinite life. For this computer to just sit there forever doing nothing does not make sense to me or to the computer I would suppose. It would be all a waste of that knowledge it has. It will know by just standing still means going backwards.
As we go through life we ask many questions about many things like what time is the next bus how much are those appeals? But the question
Why? That question is one question that I feel is impossible to answer because we do not have the ability to fully understand the question, but don’t let that stop us trying to understand.
It is possible, this process has happened many times before in the universe.
For us as a human ant, to ask this question why I think only can be answered with.
Only God knows
